LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Join us this fall for a thrilling performance of "Little Shop of Horrors" at our theatre! This darkly comedic musical tells the story of Seymour, a meek florist who discovers an unusual plant with an insatiable appetite for human flesh. As the plant grows, so does the chaos, leading to a wildly entertaining blend of romance, horror, and rock 'n' roll. Join us in January to see some Seniors take the Director's chair for one night and put on their own One Act plays.

Back to Back Jester Wins for Choreograpy

For the 2023/2024 season, Smoky Valley's production of Spamalot received 16 Jester Honors, 9 Jester Nominations and came home with the winner in Choreography for Mrs. Angela Dolezal for the second year in a row. Our production also go to perform as a Best Overall nominee and it was a great way to show off our program and all the hard work. Congratulations students! 

Peter and the Starcatcher Showcases Seniors

This story "prequel" to Peter and the Starcatcher brings hilarity to the Smoky Valley stage and was a great vehicle to showcase 9 strong seniors in their final high school production. With 8 young men and 1 young women ending their high school career they will sure to leave a strong legacy at Smoky Valley Theatre. 

Spamalot Brings Big Laughs

The crowds were howling with laughter as Monty Python's comedy hit the Smoky Valley Theater stage. The costumes, the set, the comedy... all was there for this amazing production. This show was once again adjudicated for the Jester Awards through MTI. Nominations will be announced in April. 

Big Wins 2023 Jester Awards! 

This year, our production of Newsies received 16 Jester Nominations and 4 additional Regional Honoree Nominations. The award ceremony was held May 7th in Wichita. In addition to being able to perform "King of New York" for all attendees, Smoky Valley Theater walked away with 4 awards - Pre-High School Performer (Brik Johnson), Guest Design (Eric & Michelle Johnson), Choreography (Angela Dolezal) and Outstanding Overall Production

Radium Girls' Unique Staging

The '23 Spring Play "Radium Girls" take on a unique staging that gives both actors and audience a new perspective. 

The stage is set "in the round" and audience members sit on-stage, just feet away from the action. This not only allows the audinece to feel like they are watching the lives of these characters, but also gives the actors the unique opportunity to have the audience all around them. This powerful show was loved by both audience and the cast & crew. Check out production photos here

Newsies Was A Hit! 

Audiences were WOW'd by Smoky Valley Theater's fall production of NEWSIES. Through the acting, singing, choreography and set design all the elements made this a fantastic production. This production was adjusdicated for the 2023 Jester Awards and will find out if there are any nominations in April 2023. View production photos here.

'22 JESTER AWARD NOMINATIONS 

Smoky Valley Theater was recognized as a part of the Music Theater Wichita's Jester Award Program. This program adjudicates Kansas high school theater musical performances on a number of categories. Our fall musical MATILDA received 13 Regional Honors (Outstanding Production, Director, Actress-Lauren Dolezal, Actor-Per Nelson, Supporting Actress - Myah Stambaugh-Tubbs, Production Number, Ensemble, Set Design, Lighting, Sound Design, Choreography, Music Direction & Costume). Of those 13 honors 4 went on to receive Jester Nominations going up against schools across the state. Those nominations were for Directing, Choreography, Sound and Lighting.  Congratulations Vikings on all your nominations! 

Potter fans go crazy for Puffs

For any Harry Potter fan, they will go crazy for PUFFS which provides a fast paced, non-stop experience as the show rushes through all 7 years of magical experience at a certain school of magic and magic. Follow the students from the Puffs house as they watch this well known story from a different point of view. Filled with Potter "easter eggs" and laughs, the students did a fantastic job keeping up with high energy show. 

Matilda Earns Jester Award Honors & Noms

The A.J. Steinberg Auditorium could barely contain all the energy and magic coming from the production of Matilda. Featuring 30 students both from SVHS and SVMS, everyone lit up the stage with some big dance numbers, fantastic songs and tremendous acting. They definitely told this story in a way that made Smoky Valley Theater proud. Matilda also received 13 Jester Award honors & 4 nominations for Lighting, Choreography, Sound & Directing. 

A Different Kind of Musical with PIPPIN

Smoky Valley Theater presented PIPPIN as their Spring musical, March 11, 12, 13, 2021. Students took on challenging choreography and an ambitious story and delivered a show that raised the bar for Smoky Valley Theater. It was a fantastic show that brought the audience costumes, lights and magic that will be remembered for a long time to come. To take an in-depth look, check out our production photos.  

Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play in "On The Air" This Fall 

With a challenging start to the school year in 2020, we had to get creative on how to continue to offer a great theater experience in a safe way. For the Fall show of 2020, we produced Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play. This staged production let people see and hear some of Alfred Hitchcock's suspense thrillers. Actors were masked and staged 6 feet part at their individual microphones as they voiced the characters of each story.  The show was open to a very limited number of family in the audience and was offered On-Demand for those in the community to watch. Meet Our Directors

Eric Lundstrom is an '02 Smoky Valley Alumni who spent the majority of his High School career heavily involved both Theater & Forensics. After graduation, Eric attended Baker University on a Theater scholarship and graduated in '06 with a major in Speech Communications. In 2011 Eric moved back to Lindsborg with his family. Since Eric has been back he has been actively involved in Broadway RFD where he has directed 3 Summer musicals (Wizard of Oz, Beauty & The Beast & Into The Woods), 1 Winter musical in collaboration with Bethany College (Sondheim on Sondheim) and 1 dinner theater (Love Letters). Eric works at Pfizer in McPherson and when not directing he likes to travel with his wife Erin and 3 kids (Carter, Beckett & Harper). 

Joining Eric in this role is Angela Dolezal as the Assistant Director/Choreographer. Angela and Eric have partnered together on many previous shows for Broadway RFD where Angela serves as a Board Member and former Board President. Angela's dance background has been a true asset to designing the choreography for our 2021 Spring musical. When not helping with Smoky Valley Theater also Coaches the SV Wildfires and works as the Assistant to the Athletic Director at SVHS. She is married to her husband Ben and have 2 girls (Lauren & Erin).
